How much can I borrow?
Most lenders start at around 4 to 4.5 times your income, and some go higher for certain professions or incomes. They also look at your outgoings, credit history, deposit and term. Try the calculator above, then we'll check real lender criteria for you.
What is a decision in principle?
It's a lender's indication of how much it would be willing to lend, based on a soft look at your details. Estate agents often ask for one before you make an offer. It isn't a guarantee of a mortgage.
I'm self-employed. Can I still get a mortgage?
Yes. Lenders use your tax calculations (SA302s) and accounts, and some will consider one year's figures, retained profits or contractor day rates. Picking the right lender for how you're paid makes the biggest difference.
How do I find the best rate?
Rates change often. The lowest rate isn't always the cheapest deal once fees, deal type and term are included. We compare the total cost over the deal period, not just the headline rate.
Who regulates MDJ Mortgages?
MDJ Mortgages Ltd is an appointed representative of Stonebridge Mortgage Solutions Ltd, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Our FCA reference is 949077.
How do I make a complaint?
Contact Stonebridge on 0345 646 5505 or at complaints@stonebridgegroup.co.uk. If you're not happy with the outcome, you can refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
